Economic, verbal, and physical abuse—this is what B. and her children endured until she found the strength to divorce. She was unable to receive child support from her ex-husband’s disability allowance, leaving her without any security, not even a roof over her head. Although three years have passed since the divorce, she is still haunted by nightmares at night. Most of her salary goes toward rent, leaving her with nothing by the end of the month. Kind neighbors sometimes help with small loans, which she repays slowly—or not at all. And B., along with her four children, who lived through such a harsh reality, continues to suffer—only now in a different way: poverty, shame, and lack. Moment by moment. Hour by hour. There is no discount on pain. Just imagine the light that would shine in B.'s eyes if she were to receive our food assistance—and everyone would want to give immediately. There’s no other way. She is so miserable. And so devoted. All that’s left for us—is to give.
